Module Learning Outcomes
By the end of this course, students should be able to understand:
- Quantify the concept of displacement, velocity and acceleration in two dimensions
- Apply kinematic equations to analyse the motion of point particles in one and two dimensions.
- Apply the newtons laws of motion on a system of point masses
- Use free-body diagrams to understand forces acting on objects and solve problems involving friction, tension, and normal forces.
- Define work, kinetic energy, potential energy, and the work-energy theorem.
- Solve problems involving conservation of mechanical energy and power in mechanical systems.
- Explain the relationship between momentum, impulse, and force.
- Solve collision problems using the principle of conservation of momentum.
- Distinguish between linear and rotational motion.
- Apply concepts of torque, rotational inertia, and angular momentum to physical systems.
- Explain simple harmonic motion, including the motion of pendulums and springs.
- Understand the properties of waves and solve problems involving wave speed, frequency, and wavelength.
